Shades of success at the upcoming Rug Show @Javits, New York

Blue and orange look destined to set the tone at The Rug Show in New York this year – an event that has doubled exhibitor numbers within three years.

The Rug Show @Javits returns for the third time to the Jacob K Javits Center in New York, 7–9 September, playing host to more than thirty exhibitors from the industry. The show, which coincides with Metro Market Week, has seen its demographic widen annually, as it welcomes new designers, architects and buyers.

It was created in 2011, with the aim of bringing together high-end rug producers to form a not-for-profit, wholesale shopping experience, with a strong focus on buyers, hospitality, and customer service. Exhibitor numbers have doubled since the first show, and a second event in Los Angeles now takes place during the spring season.

This year, exhibitors will be showing a particularly wide variety of collections. Innovative new designs will take centre stage with many coming from first-time exhibitors.

AfghanMade will join the Javits crowd for the first time and will present its new collection of traditional rug designs. Other new exhibitors include AGS Rugs, Amici Imports, Modern Tribal Arts and Samad. Robin Gray will unveil a new series of rugs covered in delicate abstract shapes in a multitude of colours that work harmoniously with each other. And this year the fair will be welcoming the CID 2013 Interior Designer of the Year, Karen Michelle Evans, who will be launching a rug collection under the name of her new company, Ayka Design.

Returning exhibitors include internationally renowned Wool and Silk Rugs, showcasing its latest collections. The growing list of participants includes Tissage, Creative Touch, Nalbandian, Nasiri and Thibault Van Renne. A varied roster of themes encompasses flatweaves, traditional and contemporary designs, with blues and oranges coming across as the predominant colours.
