8 reasons to visit Maison et Objet Paris

While COVER is currently celebrating the magazine’s tenth anniversary, this year also marks the twentieth anniversary of the lifestyle platform that is Maison et Objet Paris. There are many reasons to visit the show but here are the top 8 things to see and do.

1. New layout: This September (4-8) the biannual Paris event celebrates twenty years with some changes to its traditional set-up. Halls 7 and 8 will focus purely on architecture and decorative solutions for interior projects. Maison et Objet Projects will be the title for hall 8, offering layout solutions, materials, lighting, floor and wall coverings, outdoor product specifically targeted towards designers and specifiers for architectural projects. Exhibitors in hall 8 will include Stepevi, Sahrai, Reflejos de mi Tierra and Luc Druez.

2. Rugs: Top quality rugs will come from many brands including GAN, Toulemonde Bochart, Zollanvari and Rezas Oriental & Modern Rugs plus two brands making their debut appearance at M&O, Henzel Studio and Edelgrund.

3. Conferences: M&O Paris has a series of conferences on the agenda. On Friday 4 September, at 12pm, COVER Editor Lucy Upward will be moderating a seminar on the subject of ‘Interior textiles: the role of carpets and fabrics in interior design’ alongside Gabriele Chiave, Designer and Artistic Director for Marcel Wanders, Asa Henzel CEO and co-owner of Henzel Studio and French textile designer Luc Druez.

4. Textiles: M&O is a show rich with textiles. Choose from a diverse range of designs by the likes of Abigail Borg, Leligne, Arjumand’s World, Banke Kuku, Tamasyn Gambell, Akin & Suri and Eleanor Pritchard.

5. Floating Flower Garden Space: The Floating Flower Garden Space by the Japanese digital technology collective TeamLab will be one of the intriguing installations at the show. Thousands of levitating perfumed flowers should create an inspiring environment in which to be immersed.

6. New Aubusson: First time exhibitors Ateliers Aubusson are a new Aubusson-based tapestry company, who are re-thinking the ancient art of tapestry. The firm’s aim is to bring Aubusson tapestry to a 21st century audience.

7. Musée des Arts et Métiers: The Musée des Arts et Métiers is presenting an innovative exhibition with Sismo, an independent design and innovation studio. The museum is exploring the relationship between contemporary design and the history of inventions through an unusual selection of 100 objects.

8. Paris Design Week: The fifth annual Paris Design Week, scheduled to overlap with M&O Paris, will take place across the city from 5-12 September 2015. For eight days, the event invites French and international professionals and the general public to discover the best showcases of design in Paris, while the leading talents in the discipline gather in the now! le Off exhibition at Les Docks – Cité de la Mode et du Design. 34 Quai d’Austerlitz.
