COVER highlights at London Design Festival 2016

The nine-day London Design Festival kicks off this week on 17 September, and if you are attending, your diary is already likely to be full of inspiring events at the many major LDF shows. But here are nine textile highlights happening within group shows and at other venues that COVER recommends finding the time to check out

Christopher Farr + Tord Boontje
Christopher Farr has moved to a new expanded space and during LDF, they will showcase new fabrics, wallpaper, rugs and furniture there in an exciting installation by Tord Boontje (19-23 September). All the featured products are from a new collection designed by Studio Tord Boontje for Chistopher Farr and Moroso.

Two luxury floor brands unite as the creative Milan-based cc-tapis presents the illusionary handknotted Visioni rugs, designed by Patricia Urquiola, in a handmade hardwood flooring showroom (17-25 September).

Index at Blend by Raw Colour

Raw Color Blend, The Aram Gallery
The Aram Gallery present Blend, a solo exhibition by the Eindhoven-based interdisciplinary design studio Raw Color, relating to their research into colour (19 September-29 October). Three new specially created installations will show alongside three earlier works incorporating interactive paper-shredders, choreographed fans and colour shades deconstructed from woven textiles.

Design Undefined #2, Clerkenwell London
The second edition of an exhibition that launched earlier this year during Clerkenwell Design Week returns to the district dedicated to design (17-24 September). One of five presentations; an ‘outpost of Walalaland’ sees the graphic artist Camille Walala (who recently designed rugs for Floor_Story) ‘taking full advantage of the opportunity to go wild’, letting her distinctive bright patterns take over the Vinyl Lounge and Martini Bar. This is also the place to see the new mechanically-felted Motley Rug Collection by pioneering Fuzzy Logic designer Adam Guy Blencowe (as featured in COVER 44), designed and made in collaboration with Marine Duroselle.

Angie Parker Textiles, Design Nation, Decorex
A London debut for these flatweave rugs with an eye-popping contemporary colour palette, handwoven in Bristol by Angie Parker using the traditional Scandinavian Krokbragd technique (18-21 September).

Ella Robinson

TENT London
In the British Craft Pavilion, Ella Robinson combines bright threads with beachcomb finds to create vibrant works of art, and embroiderer extraordinaire Louise Gardiner has been stitching away again, creating more of her outstanding one-off works and related cushions, poufs and jump suits. Over in hall T3-A Mourne Textiles presents the well-loved textural Monochrome textiles along with revived vintage colourways from the archives (22-25 September).
