For the 50th edition of COVER, we asked influential people in the world of handmade carpets to without prejudice name the best rug since the first issue 13 years ago. Behruz Aligorgi of Australian firm Behruz Studio chose Fresco by Sahar.
‘Before everyone started going into free form and abstract rug design, the Sahar team developed this design in wool and silk. The sheer complexity of the pattern and movement has been attractive to some of our most serious art collector clients. Since this collection was launched, there have been many well-known rug designers/manufacturers or copycats that have come up with this concept too, and when I see these in the flesh, they don’t have the fluidity or the finesse of this rug. Also, the actual texture and weave is out of this world.’
