For the 50th edition of COVER, we asked influential people in the world of handmade carpets to without prejudice name the best rug since the first issue 13 years ago.  Robert Stephenson of Robert Stephenson Handmade Carpets chose Untitled 639 by Christopher Farr based on a design by Gunta Stölzl from 1926.

‘It has just such a wonderful sense of colour and harmonises well. Woven in Turkey with handspun Anatolian wool with a touch of mohair, the quality of this wool lends such a richness to the carpet, which surpasses all the other contemporary carpets one encounters. The original design prefigures the Bauhaus style that influenced one of my favourite Scandinavian flatweave designers, Agda Osterberg.’
