New York based Maki Yamamoto is a textile designer creating fabric works of art for private homes and commercial clients.

Maki graduated from the prestigious Bunka Fashion College in her native Tokyo, and developed a passion for fashion, interior textiles and art, which led her to launch a design company in 2003 after relocating to the Big Apple. Drawing inspiration from the textures and colours found in nature, Maki uses dying and sewing techniques she honed as a designer of avant-garde clothes to create customised sculptures of fabric and light for her clients.

She has also collaborated with interior designers such as Amy Lau, Pierce Allen, Peter Marino Architect, Getty’s and numerous private collectors to create customised pillows, panels and drapery.

Maki’s new collection YOAKE is inspired by layers in a painting, She uses texture and colour to create this signature line of fabrics, using silk charmeuse, linen and burlap. Freestyle shapes are hand-stitched on to contrasting fabrics, making the lines look like brush strokes.
