The award-winning production designer Maria Djurkovic has created three interiors typical of their time for a new exhibition opening on 3 February at Svenskt Tenn in Stockholm.

The exhibition ‘Three Decades’ features three set designs, created as for film, meant to showcase representative interiors from the 1930s, 1950s and 1980s. Known for her work on period blockbusters such as Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Billy Elliot and the recent The Imitation Game, Djurkovic is a long-term fan of the textiles of the Austrian-born designer and artist Josef Frank. His designs have become a Svenskt Tenn trademark.

“I loved the Josef Frank fabrics the first time I saw them in Liberty in London, they just jump out and grab you! The immediate appeal of the design was apparent for me – the sheer joie de vivre, the bold and wonderful color,” said Maria Djurkovic.

Djurkovic has found ways to include the work of Josef Frank in her production designs, borrowing pieces from Svenskt Tenn for Mamma Mia, where Meryl Streep can be seen surrounded by the bold and bright prints. For the current exhibition, Djurkovic has selected the textiles Rox & Fix, Terrazzo and Tulips by the iconic designer to set the tone of each decade.
