Artist Caroline Achaintre and Arcade Fine Arts have granted your scribe permission to reproduce several of Achaintree’s expressive and remarkable textile artworks.

Achaintre’s work on The Saatchi Gallery website includes Fevver, her 2008 hand tufted wool hanging. The artist/gallery statement declares her influences include “the crude aesthetics” of “German Expressionism” and “post-war British sculpture”, and early 20th century ‘Primitivism’.

Although your scribe thinks George Grosz might disagree with the often repeated word “crude” regarding his gift for visually reducing a person to id-like essence, she does declare Achaintre’s gift for translating diverse influences into weave masterpieces. Your scribe also sees a bit of homage to the assemblages of artist Margaret Mellis, who like Achaintre constructed work where – as the Saatchi site says of Achaintree – “objects are removed from another place or time and are brought into a contemporary context”.
