These fascinating carpet paintings by Spanish artist Antonio Santin are currently on show at New York art gallery Marc Straus. His work features a series of depictions of Oriental rugs with bodies lying underneath, which have an unsettling mood to them despite the beautiful, ornate patterns of the carpets. Alongside these are a collection of paintings of women lying down, often in a lavish setting and often on a Oriental carpet. The evocative pictures address the topics of beauty and domesticity, empathy and distancing. The work is on show in New York until 29 September.
