Azerbaijani artist Faig Ahmed, who was nominated for the Victoria and Albert Museum’s third Jameel Prize in 2013, is exhibiting his new body of work created during his residency with Dubai’s Cuadro Gallery earlier this year. The show at the Dubai gallery opened at the weekend and features a selection of fascinating handwoven carpet designs for which Ahmed has become known. In his work, the traditional oriental rug is turned on its head as Ahmed deconstructs and adapts ancient designs with three-dimensional optical illusions and clever manipulations. The solo show runs until 30 November 2014.
