The finalists for the 18th Carpet Design Awards have been chosen. Here we reveal the shortlisted entries that will be on show and compete at Domotex Hanover in January 2023.
The 18th edition of the Carpet Design Awards—presented in partnership with COVER and HALI magazines—will take place at Domotex in January, the first live CDA presentation since 2020. The awards honour the best in contemporary carpet design, with a focus on innovation, execution and sustainability. Floored by Nature, is the keynote theme of Domotex in 2023, highlighting the subject of sustainability in rug production. This is also reflected in the awards, which feature an exciting new category for sustainable rug design. Furthermore, this year the competition was open to non-exhibitors, bringing new faces and innovations to Hanover.
In the first round of judging in November three rugs are selected from each of the eight categories by the CDA jury. For 2023, Jamie Metrick, head of Elte, returns to chair the jury, which includes Nani Marquina of Spanish brand nanimarquina, RugVista AB’s purchase and creative director Carin Terins, artist and interior designer Sandra Keja-Planken, and founder and editor of decor8, Holly Becker.
The 24 shortlisted carpets will be on show in the CDA area in Hall 2 throughout the duration of the fair. The 2023 Carpet Design Awards winners will be announced at on Friday 13 January during a special awards ceremony beginning at 6.00pm.
