Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Media Lab have created a silk dome which has been woven by a robotic arm and live silkworms for a project to explore how digital and biological fabrication techniques can be combined to produce architectural structures. The robotic arm imitated the way in which a silkworm builds a cocoon. The 6500 silkworms were added to complete the structure.
