February 23, 2021

Maison et Objet's MOM online platform includes the participation of some of the world's most renowned rug brands including Zollanvari, Jaipur Rugs and Carpets CC

Maison & Objet’s Digital Days are running until the end of March, but hundreds of companies exhibit products year-round on the MOM online platform. Below, COVER takes a look at a few noteworthy exhibitors presenting rugs and related textiles:

<em>Ikebana Kyoto 7d<em> Zollanvari Studio

Creators of carpet art, Zollanvari encapsulates the best of artisan and nomadic Persian carpet design and weaving where carpet making is a cultural expression and a way of life. Zollanvari encourages their weavers to express their unique aesthetic sense to ensure each rug is unmistakably a Zollanvari creation.

Rug by Jaipur Rugs

Jaipur Rugs launched its Freedom Manchaha collection in January 2021 as the next stage of its Manchaha initiative conceptualised by Kavita Chaudhary, Design Director of Jaipur Rugs. The limited edition range of Freedom Manchaha rugs are woven by prisoners in Jaipur, Bikaner Central, and Dausa Centra Jails. Through the Jaipur Rugs initiative, inmates learn a sustainable skill and are allowed to design their own rugs and become paid members of the Jaipur Rugs Artisan Network.

<em>Folded<em> Carpets CC by Cecilia Setterdahl

Renowned Dubai-based rug design company Carpets CC by Cecilia Setterdahl recently collaborated with Nikki Bisiker Interior Design, Dubai to design rugs for the living room and home office of an apartment at Bluewaters Apartments, Dubai. ‘1 Piece of Gold’ in the home office is a limited edition black and white geometric hand tufted rug in 100% New Zealand Wool. The living room hosts Setterdahl’s round wool rug Itinerary Yellow, a striking geometric pattern that suggests a backgammon board.

Rug by Artycraft

Paris-based Artycraft presents a range of flatweave wool rugs and cushions by Mexican company Arudeko. Handwoven in the Oaxaca region of Mexico and dyed with natural, sustainable pigments such as pomegranate and Tamarind, the strong graphic quality of the designs and the honesty of materials are reminiscent of qualities championed by famous Mexican architect Luis Barragán.

<em>Merce<em> by Marion Jouanin

The Merce carpet collection by graphic designer Marion Jouanin (who formerly designed rugs at Tai Ping) for Cider Edition is her tribute to ‘choreographic movement’. Colours and curves highlight this range of printed rugs and underscore the metaphor of movement through dance. Jouanin describes the collection as ‘welcoming with their generous thickness and size, they brighten up contemporary interiors. Several colours, sizes and variations to choose from to best choreograph your moods.’
