Clerkenwell Design Week, one of the UK’s leading independent design festivals happens in London in four weeks time 20 – 22 May 2014.

Clerkenwell Design Week, one of the UK’s leading independent design festivals happens in London in four weeks time 20 – 22 May 2014. Online registration is free. With over 60 showrooms and more architects per square mile than anywhere else in the world, there is plenty of creativity to be celebrated here.

Street based design projects and spectacles by Russ + Henshaw and Studio Weave specially commissioned for CDW promise to be enticing attractions. The Design Factory at the Farmiloe Building will showcase furniture, lighting and product design from international leading brands and Detail at the Order of St. John will host prestigious brands from the luxury interiors world throughout the Church, Crypt and Cloister gardens. Additions at St. James Church Crypt on the Green will feature small design pieces and interior accessories, while Platform at the subterranean House of Detention showcases exciting, up and coming design talent. Several flooring studios in the locality are to open their doors.

Ege Carpets and showroom partner Camira are both marking significant birthdays with an encompassing theme of ‘Celebrate Textiles’: Ege with an art deco inspired, Reconstructions of the 1930s collection and their collaborative carpet couture pieces designed with Danish fashion designer David Anderson; and Camira with new Leicestershire grown nettle based fabrics and textiles that use upcycled Jute from hessian coffee and cocoa sacks blended with wool.

Reconstructions of the 1930s carpet collection by Ege Carpets, showroom open during CDW 2014

Desso have announced a vivacious ‘World of Colour’ theme inspired by the 2014 world cup host country inviting Brazilian designer, artist and up-cycler to create in house installations. They also reveal the new Desso/Philips LED light transmissive carpet in the UK for the first time. Global colour trends, South American inspired crafts and an open mic event are set to add to their carnival atmosphere. Brands Ltd. will show the latest Urban Fabric rugs by Four-O-Nine based on Paris and London city maps.

Forbo Flooring Systems focus on sustainability in flooring- the foundation of any interior, and invite you to their showroom to see how their products are good for people, buildings and the environment. Milliken Carpets have once again earnt a place on the list of World’s Most Ethical Companies 2014 as compiled by the Ethisphere Institute. Their studio will be open throughout CDW showcasing their latest product introductions and hosting creative workshops by day and professional evening debates.

Brintons Carpets launch the new High Definition Weave carpet collection that uses patented technology to create photo realistic rugs in up to 32 colours. They will also present the colourfully pixelated collection by Spanish studio, Zuzunga and reveal pieces by New York based Stacy Garcia. A series of 3 talks will happen across the 3 days of the festival at the Brintons showrooms, investigating different aspects of carpet design. Fresh from winning the ‘Best Web’ prize at Milan Design Week, Bolan continue their quest to change the view of the conventional.
