HALI Fair, Mall Galleries, 27-30 June

June 17, 2019

The HALI Fair opens at the Mall Galleries, during the period 27-30 June 2019, marking the long-awaited return of a specialist rug and textile fair in the UK.

Next week, London’s Mall Galleries will come alive with the HALI Fair, 27-30 June. The HALI Fair is part of HALI London, a week-long festival devoted to the art and history of rugs and textiles, celebrating 200 editions and 40 years of HALI magazine – the leading publication on collectable rugs, carpets and textiles, widely recognised as an authoritative reference guide and quality art publication.

At a time when museums and art lovers are increasingly turning to textiles as the key to unravelling complex cultural narratives, HALI London offers a new audience the chance to discover how textiles have been, and continue to be, an important form of artistic expression globally. It also serves as a meeting point for all those who are active in our field. A packed schedule of events is being offered to ticket holders, including a two-day symposium, featuring more than twenty international speakers, a talks programme, a masterclass on historic carpet and textile structures, a film screening of the 1925 silent film Grass: A Nation’s Battle for Life hosted by ORTS (Oriental Rug and Textile Society) and a series of visits to private collections and museum archives.

The HALI Fair at the Mall Galleries marks the long-awaited return of a specialist rug and textile fair in the UK. It will be the 10th edition of the HALI Fair, which ran annually at Olympia London between 1998 and 2006. More than twenty of the best international dealers will exhibit a wide range of antique textile art, from important collector’s pieces to more affordable decorative objects.

Taking place during London Art Week, the HALI Fair offers the chance to view and acquire textile treasures as diverse as Berber rugs from Morocco, suzani embroideries and ikat textiles from Central Asia, West African prestige cloths and Tunisian indigo shawls, fine Persian and other oriental carpets, tribal rugs, kilims and other unique handmade works from all corners of the globe.

The HALI Fair is open to the public and free to attend. At the opening (27 June, 5-9pm), a free copy of HALI 200 will be available for all visitors. A series of guided tours with a different focus will take place daily and Hadi Maktabi will sign copies of his new book at 2-3.30pm on 28 June.

If you are unable to make it to London in person, check the HALI London website for information on how to view and buy pieces at the HALI Fair online from 5pm on 27 June.

We look forward to welcoming you to HALI London!
