The Rug Show at High Point, 13-17 October
Visitors to the world’s largest furnishing industry trade show, High Point Market in High Point, North Carolina (13-17 October 2018), will be expecting the usual high-impact style from the much-respected event. The Rug Show returns to High Point for a third time, providing a dedicated rug area for a select gathering of brands without a permanent NC showroom.
The twelve Rug Show at High Point exhibitors so-far confirmed are: Caravan Rug Co., Anadol Rug Co., HOC, Lapchi, Mobayen, Nalbandian Carpets, Rug & Kilim, The New England Collection, Tufenkian Artisan Carpets, Zollanvari, Rug Collection and Bereket. The latter two brands are making their High Point Market debut. COVER spoke to them, and another two exhibitors, to find out what they will bring to market and what they expect from the show.
Rug & Kilim
‘Rug & Kilim participates at High Point Market to increase our brand exposure to the Southern and Midwestern markets. We love meeting the designers and retailers from those areas; learning about their projects with the idea that it better equips us to assist them in the future, along with working with the trade showrooms and furniture stores with our Scandinavian and Texture of Color collections. The reason we keep coming back is the collections we feature, although handmade and of a higher end nature, resonate with the clientele due the value they offer. It also gives designers and stores an easy way to understand and run with the collections.
We first showed at High Point last year and we already have new clients reaching out, excited to see our new offerings. Our hope is that they visit and take a peek at the new things we are working on and give feedback on what has been trending well in their own projects and showrooms. Our best sellers are usually from our Scandinavian collection to which we have added some new colourways and designs for the show. New to market, building on the all silk pieces launched at the April market, will be our latest constructions for our Texture of Color collection.’
– Cyrus Nazmiyal, New York, USA
‘HOC take part in The Rug Show at High Point to reach out to new customers with a focus on dealers to the trade, show rooms and designers. We already have some appointments booked for HPMKT and we expect there will be a lot of foot traffic. We hope to get noticed, to meet new contacts and customers and that The Rug Show at HPMKT will continue its trajectory as a high impact event in our industry.
We will launch several new collections, including Arcadia, Industria, Structura and Chichi, as well as adding additional designs/structures/natural materials for the Nexus, Zenith and Essentials (flatweaves) collections.’
– Peter Hens, Oud-Turnhout, Belgium
‘Rug Collection have chosen to take part in the Rug Show at High Point for the first time this year to meet new customers and designers. We’re eager to expand our business by forming important relationships with more designers. We’ve heard from many different sources that High Point is the best show for this, and also that it’s best suited to the types of rugs we bring.
Our hopes in terms of types of visitors is to meet more designers so we can help them find rugs for their clients. We currently have a few designers that we work with but we’d love to expand and have more.
We’ll be bringing a large selection of our old-look Oushak rugs, otherwise known as our Farmer Collection. These Farmer rugs are our specialty. They’re bright, colourful, beautiful and unique Turkish Oushak rugs with a thick pile and soft texture – hand-made especially for us in Turkey.’
– Sion Khalil, Atlanta, USA
‘I have chosen to exhibit in High Point in order to understand designer needs and to gather information first-hand on ‘local’ trends, to be able to maneuverer my on-going production as well as vintage rug selection and finishing decisions.
This is my very first time exhibiting in HP, thus I am expecting to gather information to be able to upgrade our production; and to have contacts for an ‘information flow’ throughout the year to achieve ‘to-the-point’ production.
We have two never seen before collections – one is old yarn Oushak reproduction with avant garde colours, and the other is ‘highlighted’, artist-altered vintage rugs.’
– Mustafa Vardarsuyu, Istanbul, Turkey
‘We take part in The Rug Show at High Point to find new customers and sell to existing customers. Reza’s experience from participating before is that the level of visitors at HPMKT is mid- to ‘highish’- end market and he wanted to reach more carpet retailers and interior designers that do not come specifically to The Rug Show New York. A start was made on this in the Spring and the expectation is to build on that. Our new Indian Wool carpets should be a good seller as well as our stock of new Iranian Gabbehs… the last shipment before the current embargo!
We will also have samples of the new Wool collection from India. The Wool & Silk collection was shown at The Rug Show New York. We will take some of this to HPMKT but will concentrate on Wool only.’
– Reza Zollanvari & Stephanie Diehl, New Jersey, USA
