Sober and Elegant in Stockholm

The Svenskt Tenn shop, Stockholm celebrate their 90th anniversary with an exhibition inspired by founder, Estrid Ericson’s minimal, early modernist style.

‘Sober and Elegant’ celebrates Swedish interior designer Estrid Ericson’s early modernist style. The exhibition is situated in the Svenskt Tenn home store, Stockholm that she founded 90 years ago and runs to 2 June 2014.

The shop came to be characterised by the design language of Josef Frank who Ericson first collaborated with in 1934, captivated by his imaginative prints and humanist approach to interiors. But in the beginning, she had a different view.

Sober & Elegant Exhibition

The accomplished designer engaged with famous artists of the time to create classic modernist objects and furniture. This exhibition presents Scandinavian pictures and objects from the 1920s, combined with modern pieces that fit with this distinctive, understated style. Three new colours have been launched in the Svenskt Tenn collection of single colour linens to coincide with the shop becoming a nonagenarian. Curator Per Ahldén will be giving guided tours of the show on Tuesday and Friday afternoons.
