As part of the May Design Series taking place at ExCeL London, from 19-21 May, there will be a whole host of unmissable industry figures to see and hear from at the free CPD accredited Conversation Series programme sponsored by Crosswater, including leading designer Karim Rashid. Aiming to stimulate, inform, inspire and provoke, the Conversation Series is sure to get tongues wagging! We’ve put together a sneak preview of just some of the key design focussed sessions that will be going on:
Pushing design to the limits, Hugh Broughton, Christina Seilern and Tomas Rousek, will be discussing the extraordinary work British practices have been involved with in extreme environments in their exciting seminar entitled, Design on the Edge. Colour and Materials in Architecture: In this intriguing seminar, Carolina Calzada, Global Color Research and Phillip Allin, Editor of Materia, will be discussing the power of sensory design and how architects employ colour and materials in a calculated manner to create identity, define space and heighten the experience of a building. Future Work: Next Gen Office: These days technology, media and telecoms companies are rejecting drab and standardised office environments more and more. Leading workplace designers and experts, Shane Kelly (TP Bennett), Simon Allford (AHMM) Benjamin Koslowski (RCA), Katy Ghahremani and Tracey Wiles (Make Architects) explain how the 21st century office is changing for the better. Hear them on Monday 20 May at 13.15.
Karim Rashid, one of the most prolific designers of his generation, will host a keynote session and then take to the decks to DJ at the late night opening on Monday 20th May. His Conversation Series talk, Analogue vs Digital at 3.15, will discuss how design shapes people’s daily lives. It will also review how the move from analogue to digital has changed the material world and how it will inform design decisions and alter social behaviours.
